We would encourage you to checkout the earlier version of our FAQs that would be specific to the Version 3.3 and lower versions. However, as always suggested, we do encourage you to update your version of the template as we will only provide limited support for all earlier versions of KingSize.

How to Install/Setup KingSize WordPress

You will need to download the purchased Template from Theme Forest. Once downloaded, please open this zipped folder within your desktop and inside the folder you will find various files and folders related to this template. The folder you want to locate is "Template Files". Inside here, you'll find our template zipped called "kingsize". It is this zipped folder that you're going to want to upload to the following directory within your installation of WordPress: .../wp-content/themes/ [kingsize goes here]. This can be done by using FTP as well as the option within Dashboard under "Appearance > Themes > Upload Theme". If you're attempting this via FTP, open the program of your choice, we'd recommend FileZilla. Navigate to the the "public_html" folder (this will vary by server) and find where you've installed your version of WordPress. Once you are inside here, locate the folder "wp-content" and inside that, "themes". Once you've opened "themes", upload the template files "kingsize". If you've uploaded this as a zip, you will need to uncompress that zipped folder once its uploaded. Now go to your WordPress Dashboard, navigate to "Appearance > Themes" and activate the installed "KingSize WordPress" template. This is an important step, please do not overlook. Once you have installed the template and activated it, you will need to go to the menu option in your dashboard that reads "Appearance > Theme Options > General Settings" and click "SAVE" to apply the default settings. Once you've hit save, these defaults will apply to the website. At this time, you will need to go to "Appearance > Menus" and setup your menus. For the benefit of our buyers, we've included an "Express Install.xml" file in the "Documentation" folder. This can be uploaded via "Tools > Import > WordPress". Please note that our images are not included in the purchased template files. You will have to upload your own images as these will not be included in the Express Install. For more details in regards to the Express Installs, we'd recommend you read the documentation inside the "Documentation" folder called "help.html".

Error: "Missing Style Sheet or Broken Template"?

This error is only shown because you've incorrectly uploaded/installed the template. The template indeed includes a "style.css", however, you've likely installed the entire zipped folder you've downloaded from Theme Forest and this is incorrect. Please only upload the zipped file called "kingsize" located in the "Template Files" folder. You can learn more about this by watching a helpful video provided by Theme Forest / Envato: http://wiki.envato.com/buying/support-buying/solving-broken-theme-issues/ Step by step explanation to further assist:

Download the zipped folder from Theme Forest you’ve purchased.
Extract the zipped folder to your desktop using 7zip or Winzip (or other related programs).
Open the newly extracted folder and locate the folder inside called “Template Files”.
Inside “Template Files” you will locate a zipped folder. This is the template folder itself.
Take that folder and upload via FTP to the directory “/wp-content/themes/[here]”.
Proceed by setting the folder permissions as explained in the documentation and your all set.

Homepage Troubleshooting

Often we notice buyers will assign the homepage a "Static Page" via "Settings > Reading" because this is the ever-so-popular method of creating homepages commonly within most premium templates. The way our template was designed you do not have to assign a static page as your homepage unless you want something other than the slider to be the main landing page. So if you've assigned a static page, please go and unassign this. Our homepage design will show as a default when activating and using the template.

How to Troubleshoot the Background Slider

Make sure you've set the folder permissions as explained: .../wp-content/uploads [set to 777] .../wp-content/themes/kingsize/cache [set to 777] .../wp-content/themes/kingsize/images/upload [set to 777] Timthumb and WordPress need the permission to write these new image files. Without defining the proper permissions on your server to these folders, they then have no access to re-write these files. Some servers may require this being set to "755" instead. If permissions are setup correctly, than we need to check and ensure you've not assigned a static page. Go to "Settings > Reading" and if the radio button beside "Static Page" is checked, uncheck this using the default options above. Static pages are not required for KingSize's homepage to work. Furthermore, should you be having problems with the slider stopping after the second image, it's likely because you've incorrectly setup the "slider intervals" and/or the "slider transitions". If you go to "Theme Options > Home Settings", make sure you have assigned the "Slider Intervals" and "Slider Transitions" in "milliseconds" (ie., 5 seconds = 5000 milliseconds) - using without milliseconds will cause the slider not to load. Another commonly made mistake is when creating your slider items via the post-type "Slider", buyers do not assign a "Featured Image". The Featured Image is the image that will be displayed in the slider when used. If you've not assigned a featured image to these Slider Items being created the slider will not work. In addition to these, should your slider still not be loading, we'd recommend you double check the "Slider Category ID" if you've assigned one via "Theme Options > Home Settings" and ensure it's the correct ID that is corresponding with the slider items you're trying to load.

The video assigned as my homepage video is not working?

Often this is seen as a "vimeo" issue and generally when a buyer uses "https" in the vimeo URL. When you're logged into Vimeo, it's a secure connection. However, the public access is not. In order to make these videos load properly, you need to remove the secure URL and replace with an insecure URL, ie., "http://www".

What are the recommended slider image sizes?

We do not recommend you use "Portrait" style images. The slider works best with "Landscape" style images. On our demonstration, we are using 1400x900 pixels. It's been said though from our buyers that 900x500 also gives good results. Try and keep the images to a maximum 1.5MB's for best performance and remember, the more images you've used in the homepage slider, the longer it will take to load.

How do I troubleshoot missing thumbnails?

Does your server support Timthumb?
Does your server have GD Image and PHP5+ enabled?
Are your images optimized? Recommended size is 1500x1500 and 1.5mb's.
Does your image url contain and unique special characters?
Have you checked if there's any plugins conflicting with Timthumb?

As an alternative, if Timthumb is not supported by your hosting environment, nor have you resolved your missing thumbnails issues, you can go to "Theme Options > General Settings" and scroll to the bottom where you'll find a option available to "Disable/Enable Timthumb". Disable Timthumb (used by default) and enable "WP Image Resizer".

What are the recommended gallery image sizes?

We'd recommend you use no larger then 1500x1500 pixels and 1.5MB's for best performance. Keep in mind, by default, our galleries are best suited for Landscape styled photos/images.

How come I have duplicate Galleries showing?

If you've two galleries showing, one which is using our Gallery style and another which is different (and looks plain) this would be the default WordPress gallery. Chances are you've used the "Gallery Page Template" of your choice and uploaded your attached images for the gallery, but you also went one step further and inserted that gallery into the page. Remove the inserted gallery. Refer back to the documentation for how to use Page Templates to create your galleries, or review this blog article we've written called "How to create Galleries with Page Templates".

How do I use Lightbox within the native WordPress Galleries?

If you're wanting to use "lightbox" in the Native WordPress galleries (ie., inserting a Media Gallery) when inserting that gallery, or to insert a single image, there's an option with it that allows you to either "Link to Attached Image" or "Link to Image" and it's the latter you want to select. When linking to the attached image, this will open a new page to display the image. When "Linking to Image", this links to that image so it then opens in lightbox.

How do I remove the titles from the Galleries?

In previous versions there was not an option for this, but since the release of version 4.0.3 we introduced a new section to the Theme Options called "Gallery/Portfolio" and in here you can "Enable/Disable Lightbox Titles" accordingly to the specific gallery-type you're using (ie., Fancybox, PrettyPhoto, Galleria, etc).

How do I remove the spacing between Portfolio items if no description?

A popular question, but also asked is "How do I 'add' more spacing between Portfolio items" and since KingSize WP version 4.0.3 we introduced a new option that would allow you to control the pixels used for the portfolio items height. Go to "Theme Options > Gallery/Portfolio" and you want to edit the "Portfolio Item Height".

How do I disable/enable comments?

Follow these simple steps and you can enable/disable comments as desired:

Go either create or edit a page/post.
Locate "Screen Options" in the top right corner (it's a tab).
Click the tab and expand the Screen Options outwards.
Check the box beside "Discussions" to enable this option.
Click the tab again to close out the Screen Options.
Now beneath the write-panel is your option to Enable/Disable comments.

If you follow these instructions you shouldn't have any issues. Now all you need to do once the discussion option has been enabled, beneath each and all pages/posts, you'll be able to enable/disable the comments.

How do I create a Contact page?

There are two ways to create a Contact Form, they are: 1. Contact Page Template: Go create a new page and assign it the "Contact Page" template under "Page Attributes". 2. Contact Form Shortcode: There is a shortcode that can be used to create the contact form. You can find a demo under our "Examples > Shortcodes" page. The advantage to the "Page Template" is there is a custom widget sidebar for the contact page. If you're wanting to use this custom sidebar, along with the Contact Widget, you'll have to use the Contact Page Template. You can also setup the email address used by the form in your "Theme Options > Contact Page". In addition, the "Shortcode" method, you will have to insert your email address directly into the shortcode. You can also customize your thank you message as part of the shortcode being used. To insert the contact shortcode, use the Shortcode button located in the Text Editor / TinyMCE, or refer to the Shortcodes examples.

How do I edit the Contact page sidebar?

Go to "Appearance > Widgets" and drag and drop the desired items/widgets into the sidebar labeled "Contact Page". Take note that this sidebar area will only be available for the Contact Page Template, not the shortcode.

My Contact Form isn't working? No emails are being received?

If you're not receiving emails, chances are you've either incorrectly inserted your email address, or your hosting environment isn't supporting the method used for the PHP mailer. In which case, we would recommend you contact your hosting provider and explain to them the emails are not working and ask for their assistance.

How do I create a Blog page? (and how to create multiple Blogs)

Creating a blog page template couldn't be any easier.

Go to "Pages" and "Add New" / create a new page.
Title your page "Blog" (or whatever is desired).
Under "Page Attributes" select the "Blog Template".
Customize your write-panel options if desired.
Save/Publish the new page you've justed created.

It's that simple. Now to add the blog to your navigation so people can find it and click it, go to "Appearance > Menus" and add it to the menu from the selection of "recently created pages". If you haven't created any "posts" yet, go create them and they will automatically appear within the blog page you've already created. IN ADDITION to this, let's say you want to create multiple blogs. So for this, we'd make use of "Categories". Create yourself multiple categories that relate to your needs, ie., "Photography", "Traveling", "Wildlife". Now go to "Appearance > Menus" and you'll be able to add those specific categories to your navigation. Now anything that is posted and added to that category will show up. Keeping in mind, if you use the "Blog" page template, all entries will show it in, even those sub-categories you've created. So if you want only "blog" posts to show in the blog, you need to create a "Blog" category and just as you did with the other categories, add that to your navigation and you'll have all specific blogs to those categories.

How do I create Password Protected pages?

Password Protected pages is not something "custom" to our template. It's default WordPress functionality and something we've styled to work with our template when it's [optionally] used. To Password Protect your page/post, do this:

Edit/Create a Page/Post.
On the right-side, locate the "Publish" section.
Locate "Visibility", by default this shows "Public".
Click the "Edit" button beside "Public".
Select the desired option for "Visibility".
In our case, we want "Password Protected".
When checked, a password input field will display.
Insert the password to use and Publish your page/post.

Often, people will assume that the "Password Protection" is not working and this is often because you've already inserted the password to that protected page. The way WordPress Password Protected pages/posts works is it will cache your entry so there's no need to re-insert the password if you've already accessed that page/post in the past. For something more dynamic, with more features and options, we'd advise you to search WordPress.org's Plugin Respository and see what you can find. There are numerous different plugins available that will cater to your membership restrictions, types and roles.

How do I remove the "Dates" on Blog entries?

How do I edit the Footer Columns

Go to "Appearance > Widgets" and there is 3 widget-ready sidebar areas called "Footer - Left" and "Footer - Center" and "Footer - Right", drag and drop your desired widgets into these areas and they'll overwrite the default demo-widgets that are there initially. If you do not want to use this area (referred to as the Widget Footer) you can go to "Theme Options > Pages/Posts" and here you can "Enable / Disable Widget Ready Footer". Don't worry though, this won't remove the copyright footer.

How do I create menu items?

Creating the menu really isn't complicated. Just follow the instructions below and it'll walk you through all the necessary things you'll want to know about WordPress 3.0+ Menus. From how to create "Custom Links" to how to add "Pages" and "Categories" to your navigation.

Go to "Appearance > Menus".
If no menu's exist, you will have to create one.
Locate the "Menu Name" field and insert a name.
We'll name ours "Navigation" for this example.
Now click the "Create Menu" button located to the far right.
On the left, locate "Theme Locations".
Using the "Header Navigation" drop-down, select your created menu.
Hit the "Save" button to apply that navigation.

There you have it. You've created your navigation. Now to add menu items. Creating "Custom Links" in your menu:

In the left, locate the section "Custom Links".
In the "URL field" insert the URL of the menu item you're creating.
In the "Label field" insert the name of the URL menu item.
Hit the "Add to Menu" and that item will appear in the right-column.
You can repeat this to add more custom links.
Drag and drop the menu items (in the right column) in the order desired.
Make sure once you've finished editing, you "SAVE MENU" before leaving.

To add existing pages and categories:

Just beneath the Custom Links is "Pages" and "Categories".
Check the box beside the items you want to add.
Once you've selected the items you want, "Add to Menu".
Drag and drop those menu items (in the right column) in the order desired.
Make sure once you've finished editing, you "SAVE MENU" before leaving.

Once you've finished customizing your navigation, it will appear as saved on the frontend of the website. Refresh your website and you should now see the changes.

How do I add menu subtitles/descriptions?

Go to "Appearance > Menus" and at the top locate "Screen Options" and click it. Check the box beside "Description" to enable this option. Now go to each of the menu items, expand them by clicking the little arrow. Inside each of the menu items, you can add a description that will show beneath each menu item. Make sure to save your changes afterward by clicking the "Save Menu" button.

How do I unlink the parent Menu Items?

The process of unlinking the parent menu item as we have on the demonstration site is quite easy.

Go to “Appearance > Menus”.
Instead of “adding a page/category/etc” create a “custom link”.
Insert the URL as “#” and enter the navigation item title.
Now click the “Add to Menu” button.
Position the menu by dragging and dropping the item where you need it.
Expand using the arrow on the right-hand side of the menu item.
Remove the “#” URL and leave this area blank now.
Add your sub-menu level items and click save when your complete.

Follow these steps and you should be able to remove the clickable links on your parent menu items.

How can I make the navigation collapsed by default?

Inside "Theme Options > General Settings" locate Hide/Show Navigation Options, you can:

Show the Navigation on All Pages
Hide the Navigation on All Pages
Hide the Navigation only on Homepage

Along with this, you have the option to "Enable/Disable Hide/Show", which basically means you can disable the option to hide the menu (the bottom arrow), along with "Enabling/Disabling the Menu Tooltips" and others also.

My navigation isn't showing in smaller screen resolutions?

The navigation is designed as a "fixed menu" and stays positioned in the browser view. When you add to many items, in smaller screen resolutions, it can cause the navigation to not fully show. To avoid this, you need to manager your navigation setup. Make use of the sub-level mneu items. Categorize your navigation so it's not showing so many items within the main view of the navigation.

How can I change the color/shape of the navigation and body content?

In the zipped folder you've downloaded from Theme Forest, locate the folder "PSD Files" and inside it is another folder called "Sliced" and a single file called "layout.psd". Open up the "sliced" folder and you'll find the images that are being used by the template in their original layed PSD states. The "Content Background" is the "[my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] content_back.psd [/my_highlight]" file. The "Menu Background" is the "[my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] menu_back.psd [/my_highlight]" file. The "Menu Bottom / Hide Area" is the "[my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] menu_hide_back.psd [/my_highlight]" file. The "Hover Arrow" is the "[my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] menu_hover_arrow.psd [/my_highlight]" file. The "Hide/Show Tooltip Background" is the "[my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] tooltip.psd [/my_highlight]" file. Now open each of these images and edit them as desired. Once you've completed editing them, you'll want to save these modified images as a "PNG" image and upload to overwrite those existing images in the "/image/" folder of the template. IMPORTANT NOTES: If you're using any of the "Transparency/Opacity" settings, you need to then upload those modified images to the "/images/opacity/" folder and it's corresponding level (ie., ".../opacity/07 or 08 or 09). Also should note that you'll need to also include your own transparency to those newly created images as you'll be overwriting ours. CLEAR YOUR CACHE - If you do not see the new images, clear your cache. We are available for customizations if you're interested in modifying the design/look and feel.

How do I add a Favicon to my website?

Go to "Theme Options > General Settings" and you'll find a section labeled as "Favicon Upload" and here you can upload your own favicon. It's suggested that you use 16x16 when creating these for the best results.

How do I upload a logo? and what size?

Logos can be uploaded via "Theme Options > General Settings" using either a link or attached media. Our recommended sizes are 180x200 pixels.

How do I decrease the height of the logo area?

In some cases, you may have a logo smaller than the default height. Now you've this big space between the logo itself and the navigation items. Question becomes, how do we remove that space and bring closer the menu items? Go to "Theme Options > Miscellaneous" and locate CSS Overrides, insert: [my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] #logo { height: 180px; } [/my_highlight] Adjust the height from "180px" to suit your specific needs (180px is the default height).

How do I modify the Timthumb cropping position?

This requires some experience working around PHP and more specifically Timthumb. If you're not comfortable with PHP and not experienced with Timthumb, we don't recommend editing it. In the meantime, we ask you bear with us, we'll be offering a solution in the near future. For those willing to take a stab at this, you will need to read "Moving the Crop Location". You will need to modify the way the images being called our cropped with Timthumb. This does require you modifying our template files to apply it.

How come my "Portrait" style images are being cropped and look so badly?

Our template was best designed for "Landscape" photos and when using Timthumb, it will crop the Portrait images in the middle. If you want to make modifications to the cropping position, we have mentioned above how to modify the cropping position. We apologize for the inconveniences this may pose. We're working towards a solution now.

How do I make my menu font look like yours (narrow, not bold)?

In our demonstration we're using a thinner font than comes default with our template. The reason for this, is in earlier versions of our template, we used a much bolder font and when we released version 4.0 of KingSize WordPress, we replaced that font with a thin version and some of our buyers were use to the old look and wanted it back. So we made it again our default font face. To change this, we just need to apply some simple CSS overrides. Follow these steps: Go to "Theme Options > Miscellaneous > CSS Overrides" and insert: [my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] #navbar li a { font-weight: normal; } [/my_highlight] [my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] #navbar li span { font: italic 12px 'PT Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', 'Verdana', sans-serif; } [/my_highlight] Now "Save All Changes" and your font will look identical to the demonstration site.

How do change my site font?

Go to "Theme Options > Styling Options" and at the top you'll find the Google Web Fonts options. Each option has a description aligned to the right of them. Insert the URL and appropriate CSS for that new font. If you have troubles, watch this Video Tutorial. These changes will only affect those areas it has been applied to by default. If you're wanting to add this font to be applied to other areas, you will need to modify the CSS by using CSS Overrides within your Theme Options.

Can I make single images within pages/posts open in lightbox?

When creating your page/post and have inserted your image, you will want to be sure to select “Link to Image” instead of the default which is pre-selected, “Link to Attached Image”. When you “Link to Image” it will inform the browser when clicked to have that image open in lightbox rather than a new page.

Can I use this for Ecommerce? What plugins do you recommend?

Technically, our template is not an "Ecommerce Template", so support is limited. Our buyers have confirmed that two work well with our template: wp-Ecommerce Cart66 Now we have not personally tested these ourselves but we have seen it being used. We hope in the future to consider Ecommerce/Payment options but at this time it's not supported.

How do I move the navigation to the left?

Go to "Theme Options > Miscellaneous > CSS Overrides" and insert: [my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] #menu_wrap { left: 0px; } [/my_highlight] This will move the navigation all the way to the left. Adjust the "0px" to suit your specific needs and save all changes to apply it.

My menu font looks much bolder than the demonstration fonts?

The reason your menu fonts look different than our demonstration is we've added some additional CSS overrides, you can do it too. Open "Theme Options > Miscellaneous > CSS Overrides" and insert the following: [my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] #navbar li a { font-weight: normal; } [/my_highlight] You'll also need to add:

[my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] #navbar li span { font: italic 12px 'PT Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', 'Verdana', sans-serif; } [/my_highlight]

Save those changes afterward and you should have a nicely thin-looking font alike to our demonstration.

How do I make the sub-level navigation/menu wider?

Go to "Theme Options > Miscellaneous > CSS Overrides" and insert the following: First, we want to change the width of the sub-navigation: [my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] #navbar li ul { width: 180px; } [/my_highlight] Then we want to also adjust the width of the text area in the sub-navigation: [my_highlight color="#EAEAEA" font="#000000" ] #navbar li ul li { width: 140px; } [/my_highlight] The two above widths are the defaults, so you'll want to change these accordingly to suit your specific needs. An important reminder though is that when changing one, make sure to change the other as well. So if you increase the "180px" to "200px" then you also need to change "140px" to "160px" to reflect that adjustment. Save your changes afterward for those affects to be applied.

If you've copied and pasted the HTML from our website, directly into your "Visual" tab, chances are, you've snagged additional HTML coding that is causing issues you're seeing. Go back to our demonstration website and grab the snippets that you're wanting to use (ie., pricing table) and before pasting it into your page/post, make sure you've selected the "Text" tab, then you can go back to the visual tab.

How can I download the updated version of KingSize WordPress?

Log into your Theme Forest account that you purchased KingSize WordPress with. Navigate to the "Downloads" section of your account and locate "KingSize WordPress". Simply download the template again and whatever version is available at that current time will be what's downloaded to your desktop. Of course, we always encourage you to backup your websites before updating as we cannot guarantee you won't loose or corrupt anything. Best to play smart and safe.

How to Install/Setup KingSize WordPress

You will need to download the purchased Template from Theme Forest. Once downloaded, please open this zipped folder within your desktop and inside the folder you will find various files and folders related to this template. The folder you want to locate is "Template Files". Inside here, you'll find our template zipped called "kingsize". It is this zipped folder that you're going to want to upload to the following directory within your installation of WordPress: .../wp-content/themes/ [kingsize goes here]. This can be done by using FTP as well as the option within Dashboard under "Appearance > Themes > Upload Theme". If you're attempting this via FTP, open the program of your choice, we'd recommend FileZilla. Navigate to the the "public_html" folder (this will vary by server) and find where you've installed your version of WordPress. Once you are inside here, locate the folder "wp-content" and inside that, "themes". Once you've opened "themes", upload the template files "kingsize". If you've uploaded this as a zip, you will need to uncompress that zipped folder once its uploaded. Now go to your WordPress Dashboard, navigate to "Appearance > Themes" and activate the installed "KingSize WordPress" template. This is an important step, please do not overlook. Once you have installed the template and activated it, you will need to go to the menu option in your dashboard that reads "KingSize WP > General Settings" and click "SAVE" to apply the default settings. Once you've hit save, these defaults will apply to the website. At this time, you will need to go to "Appearance > Menus" and setup your menus. For the benefit of our buyers, we've included an "Express Install.xml" file in the "HELP FILES" folder. This can be uploaded via "Tools > Import > WordPress". Please note that our images are not included in the purchased template files. You will have to upload your own images as these will not be included in the Express Install. For more details in regards to the Express Installs, we'd recommend you read the documentation inside the "HELP FILES" folder called "Template Documentation".

Error: "Missing Style Sheet or Broken Template"?

Download the zipped folder from Theme Forest you’ve purchased.

Extract the zipped folder to your desktop using 7zip or Winzip (or other related programs).

Open the newly extracted folder and locate the folder inside called “Template Files”.

Inside “Template Files” you will locate a zipped folder. This is the template folder itself.

Take that folder and upload via FTP to the directory “/wp-content/themes/[here]”.

Proceed by setting the folder permissions as explained in the documentation and your all set.

How to Troubleshoot the Background Slider

Make sure you've set the folder permissions as explained: .../wp-content/uploads [set to 777] .../wp-content/themes/kingsize/cache [set to 777] .../wp-content/themes/kingsize/images/upload [set to 777] Timthumb and WordPress need the permission to write these new image files. Without defining the proper permissions on your server to these folders, they then have no access to re-write these files. Some servers may require this being set to "755" instead. If permissions are setup correctly, than we need to check and ensure you've not assigned a static page. Go to "Settings > Reading" and if the radio button beside "Static Page" is checked, uncheck this using the default options above. Static pages are not required for KingSize's homepage to work. Furthermore, should you be having problems with the slider stopping after the second image, it's likely because you've incorrectly setup the "slider intervals". If you go to "KingSize WP > General Settings" and look for the Slider Options, you'll see there is a "HELP" icon beside it. Mouse over this and it explains a little about the use of this item. The slider intervals should be set in "MILLISECONDS" and NOT in seconds. So for example, if you want "5 seconds" between each image, you'd set the intervals for "5000" milliseconds instead of seconds.

What are the recommended slider image sizes?

We do not recommend you use "Portrait" style images. The slider works best with "Landscape" style images. On our demonstration, we are using 1400x900 pixels. It's been said though from our buyers that 900x500 is also a great size. Try and keep the images to a maximum 1.5MB's for best performance and remember, the more images you've used in the homepage slider, the longer it will take to load.

Difference between Galleries and Portfolios?

One of the more commonly asked question is, "What is the difference between a 'Gallery' and 'Portfolio' on KingSize WordPress?" There's only three major differences. The first being that "Galleries" are designed specifically to use images only, whereas Portfolios can be both Videos and Images. Secondly, Galleries are single page items, whereas in your Portfolios, you can set how many items per page you want displayed with the use of pagination - these also lead from one main page to a secondary page containing more information about the Portfolio items, whereas a Gallery will only open the image and remains within one page. Last, the Portfolios are designed to display "content", so you can add your items and when clicked to open, you can include details pertaining to that specific portfolio item. Galleries will have the use of 5 different types of Galleries, along with 4 different layouts. Portfolios are only one type of lightbox effect. For more details on creating Galleries, we recommend you read the documentation as this contains detailed explanations and video tutorials complimenting the use of it.

How do I Troubleshoot missing thumbnails?

Does your server have GD Image and PHP5 enabled? Contact your host if you’re not certain.

Images are too large. Resize for optimized use. We recommend no larger than 1500×1500 and 1.5MB’s in size.

Image name contains special characters, ie. “Img29$-03.jpg”, change this to “img29.jpg” instead. Can cause problems with the way Timthumb is trying to process those images.

Sometimes a plugin will cause a conflict, for a variety of reasons (to many to list), so if all those steps above have not resolved your issue, trying disabling your plugins. If you notice afterwards the images are working, enable the plugins till you are able to determine which causes the issue.

Lastly, if none of these have resolved your issue, you may wish to contact your hosting company and be sure the server allows Timthumb. Some servers will not allow it or are not yet setup with the configurations to use the Timthumb script.

If you’ve taken all these steps and have not successfully been able to use your galleries, or images are still appearing with an “X” or nothing at all, than provide us with your FTP and WordPress Admin login credentials using our Support System so we can take a closer look at the issues your experiencing and get you all sorted out.

How come I have duplicate Galleries showing?

This is because you've not followed the documentation for creating Galleries. You've "inserted the gallery" into your page rather than just uploading the images. Our galleries are designed to be dynamic. When you upload the images attached to your page, those will dynamically be generated in the frontend of the website when the page has been published. When you insert your galleries into the page, you're then duplicating the Gallery you've created. So simply remove this inserted gallery and leave the attached images as is, when published/updated, these images will display accordingly. In short, DO NOT insert your galleries into the pages you've created.

How do I use Lightbox within the native WordPress Galleries?

Sometimes you'll have reason to use the "Native WordPress Galleries" (ie., inserting the images you've uploaded into your post as a gallery) or to insert individual images that you'd like to have the "lightbox" effect with. It's quite simple. When you're inserting the single image or gallery, you want to select from the options before inserting, to "Link to Image" and not the "Linked to Attached Image" option. By selecting the option to "Link to Image" you're telling the website to open that image within lightbox, rather than a new window/tab/page.

How do I remove the titles from the Galleries?

For example, if you're wanting to remove the titles from a gallery such as "Fancybox" from showing when you open in lightbox, you would need to open up "fancybox.php" and locate line #65, you will see the following coding "$post_title = $attachment->post_title;", simply remove this line of coding, save it and upload to overwrite the original fancybox.php file.

The same would apply to the other galleries. Open up the file associated with those galleries, ie., "prettyphoto.php", "slideviewer.php" and others, look for the mentioned line of coding above. Although keep in mind, the line placement will vary from each file but the line of coding will be the same.

How do I create a Portfolio?

It's quite simple really, and we'll walk you through this step by step:

First, log into your Dashboard and locate the "Portfolio" post-type.

Inside this post-type, locate the "Portfolio Categories" and create a few new ones accordingly.

Now that you've created your categories, go to the "Pages" post-type and create a new page.

Create a page called (for example) Photography.

When creating this page, use the "Page Attributes" to assign it the page template "Portfolios".

Now within the write-panel of that page, look for the option to assign it a "Portfolio Category" you previously created.

Once assigned, go to the "Save / Publish" button and save the newly created page for your Portfolio.

Now head back to the "Portfolio" post-type and now you want to create a new Portfolio Item.

Each Portfolio Item created is a Single Portfolio Item.

When creating this item, assign it the "Category" you've created and assigned to the previously created page.

Use the options within the write-panel of this Portfolio Item and add your attached image or video.

Save that new Portfolio Item and if followed the instructions correctly, it should show within the previously created page.

Please note that at this time, you cannot add "Galleries" into the Portfolio items unless you're using the Native WordPress galleries by inserting them into your Portfolio Item you've created. The alternative option is to create a "Gallery" using the Page Template outside the Portfolios and link the "Read More" button to this gallery instead. We're working on releasing an updated version (version 4) in coming weeks that will then allow Galleries to be used as shortcodes, along with many other updates. In the meantime, we apologize for any inconveniences this may pose.

How do I remove the spacing between Portfolio items if no description?

Sometimes our buyers will not want to use descriptions (which uses the "excerpts" from within Portfolio items you've created) and in doing so, this leaves a large space in between the items you're creating within your Portfolios. This requires a few tweaks to the CSS to remove this spacing. First, open up your Dashboard, go to "KingSize WP > General Settings" and locate the "CSS Overrides" section. Insert the following CSS:

#gallery_prettyphoto.portfolio ul li { height: 400px; }

This is the default height, "400px", you will need to modify this to suit your specific needs. So if you're wanting the space smaller, try inserting "250px" instead of "400px" and save those changes. Refresh the page afterward and see if this is enough adjustment for your liking. If not, go back to the General Settings and again tweak the height till it's what you desire.

How do I disable/enable comments?

When creating/editing a "Page" or "Post", at the very top you will see "Screen Options", a small tab. You will need to click this and set this option only once per both page and post, then afterward this option will remain visible. So click that "Screen Options" tab and when it expands locate "Discussions". You will want to check the box beside this option. Once checked, scroll down beneath your write-panel options and you'll see a new area that has been added that enables you to control the use of comments on this page/post as needed.

How do I create a Contact page?

Go to "Pages" and create a new page. When creating this page, locate "Page Attributes" and assign it the "Contact" page template.

How do I create a Blog page?

To create a Blog page, it's quite simple. Navigate to the "Pages" section of the WordPress Dashboard and create a new page. Title it "Blog", or something of your choice. On the right-hand side of creating a new page, you'll see an area called "Page Attributes" and inside it an option to select a template from a drop down menu. Find the one that reads "Blog Template", select this and "Publish / Update" your page. Now all the posts you create will automatically be pulled to this newly created page called "Blog".

How do I create Password Protected pages?

When you're creating a Page or Post, you will see in the right-hand column, where you would click "Update/Publish" there is an option that says "Visibility: Public" (default setting). You will notice just beside this, it says "Edit". Clicking this will show you new options to set it to "Public", "Password Protected" or "Private". If you select "Password Protect" a text area will display for you to insert your secret password. Once you've entered the password, "Update/Publish" the page or post for this to take effect.

It's important you understand that this is a default feature to WordPress and our template was simply designed to cater to it. These are only "Password Protected" pages and will not include the option for unique usernames. If you're interested in achieving username/password protection, we'd advise you search WordPress.org for related plugins to help you achieve this.

How do I remove the "Dates" and "Comments" from the Blog?

At this time, we did not include this as an option (KingSize WP version 3.3 and below) within the General Settings setup. So you'll have to perform these modifications manually. There are potentially two files you'll need to locate and make changes to. These are "template_blog.php" and "loop.php". To remove the comments for "template_blog.php" from displaying, locate line #34 and remove this entirely. To remove the dates for "template_blog.php" from displaying, locate line #33 and remove this entirely. Repeat this process for the "loop.php", line numbers may vary, but the it's the same line of coding you're looking for. Once you've made these modifications, simply upload the modified files to your server overwriting the originals. In our next release, these options will be controllable from within the General Settings but for now, it's only done manually.

How do I edit the Footer Columns

Go to "Appearance > Widgets" and you will find 3 Footer Widget ready sidebars. Drag and drop the designed widgets into these areas and modify them to suit your specific needs. If you wish to simply disable this footer area, you can go into your Theme Options and disable the footer.

How do I create menu items?

Go to "Appearance > Menus" and here you'll need to assign your main navigation and save it. If you have not used the Express Install.xml file, create your menu items using the options within this page. Once created, make sure you save the menu and have applied it to your navigation.

How do I add menu subtitles/descriptions?

You’ll need to follow these simple steps:

Log into your WordPress dashboard.

Go to “Appearance > Menus”.

At the top locate the tab “Screen Options”.

Check the box beside “Descriptions”.

Now go to each of the menu items and expand them by clicking on the arrow in the right of the menu item. Once expanded, you can now edit the subtitles / descriptions like shown within our demonstration. Be sure to save your changes upon completion.

How do I unlink the parent Menu Items?

The process of unlinking the parent menu item as we have on the demonstration site is quite easy.

Go to “Appearance > Menus” in your left-hand menu.

Instead of “adding a page/category/etc” create a “custom link”.

Insert the URL as “#” and enter the navigation item title.

Now click the “Add to Menu” button.

Position the menu by dragging and dropping the item where you need it.

Expand using the arrow on the right-hand side of the menu item.

Remove the “#” URL and leave this area blank now.

Add your sub-menu level items and click save when your complete.

Follow these above 9 steps and you should be able to remove the clickable links on your navigation.

How can I make the navigation collapsed by default?

At this time, it is not a default option within our template without developments. If you require our assistance we can gladly help but it will include billable development time. If you want to attempt this yourself, it will require some knowledge of jQuery but can be completed by modifying the file "/js/custom.js". In the release of version 4, this will be an included default option that can be assigned via the Theme Options page. We apologize for any inconveniences this may pose at this time.

My navigation isn't showing in smaller screen resolutions?

The way our template was designed, it uses a "fixed" navigation. If you've added to many items within the navigation, on smaller screen resolutions, this will fall beneath the browser window, in turn, not showing all the items within your navigation. The only solution to this, without modifications to the core template files, is to limit the number of items you've inserted into your navigation and make use of "sublevel" menu items instead. Furthermore, some of our buyers have vary large (height-wise) logos, the other options is to limit the size of your logos, permitting more space within the navigation for your use of the menu items.

How can I change the color/shape of the navigation and body content?

These areas are both images and we've provided you the necessary PSD's to complete these modifications. Once you've made your modifications, upload these new changes to overwrite the original images inside the "images" folder and reload your website. Please note, if you're using caching plugins, you may have to clear your cache and disable the plugin momentarily for those changes to take place.

How do I add a Favicon to my website?

Currently (in version 3.3) there is no option to add a favicon, however, it's not difficult at all. Simply log into your WordPress Dashboard, locate "KingSize WP > General Settings" and inside here find " Include Code". It's here you will want to insert your Favicon coding. It's really simple and you can learn all about it by visiting "W3C How to Add a Favicon to your Website". Here you'll find a line of coding, ie.: link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://example.com/myicon.png" Make sure you wrap this in "<" and ">" before saving. Change the URL to the location of your favicon and save the changes in your General Settings. That's it. If you need a spot to upload your favicon, navigate to the "Media" section of your Dashboard and upload the favicon to your WordPress installation. Copy the link of the image you uploaded, head back to the General Settings and update that URL to reflect the image URL you've uploaded.

How do I include "Special Characters" within my text?

Our template uses what is called "Cufon" to generate non-standard based web fonts. By default, Cufon does not support the use of special characters and in knowing this, we have created an additional folder inside the downloaded zip you've received from Theme Forest called "Cufon Font Languages". Open this folder up and find the language that you use and overwrite the existing files within the template with those fold inside that folder. There are details provided in the folder for completing this task.

You will want to open "/js/custom.js" and remove lines #3 to #11. Then open "style.css" and add in yours.

How do I replace the current Cufon font with another?

This requires you being somewhat comfortable with both the use of Cufon and PHP. You will need to generate a new Cufon font, and from here you will want to upload that to the "/js/" folder, alike to the original fonts found within it. From here, you will need to update the files "/js/custom.js" and "functions.php" to reflect the new file name for the newly generated font you're wanting to use.

Can I use this for Ecommerce? What plugins do you recommend?

Please understand that our template was not designed for the purpose of Ecommerce and in saying that, please note we do not provide support for Ecommerce usage, at least not free of charge. It is possible to use our template for the purpose of selling goods. We've seen it done by many, and ourselves have setup a couple installations using these two recommended carts, "Cart66" and "wp-eStore". Please remember we have not designed our template to directly work with these and you may run into issues, but for the most part, we've found these two suggested carts to work best with our template.

How can I update the version of KingSize WordPress?

We cannot stress how important it is for you to *BACKUP YOUR WEBSITE* prior to updating your version of the template or WordPress. In doing so, we want you to be aware that we are not to be held responsible for any issues you encounter or lost material. Perform these tasks only after you've made a database and directory backup. So how do you update your version of KingSize? Just download the latest version of the template from Theme Forest. Then upload that folder in the same manner as before to overwrite the original folder already there within the "themes" directory. Updates will require being completed via FTP. Once you've uploaded the updated template folder, you will not loose your Theme Options previously setup, nor your pages/posts and etc., so long as you're overwriting the folder, you will not loose the images you have previously uploaded that are now saved within the Cache and Uploads folders.

How to create a Blog

Greetings & Salutations! Creating a blog page couldn't be any easier and following these steps you should walk through the process with no troubles at all.

First log into your WordPress Dashboard.
Now go to "Pages" and create a new page.
Once inside pages, give your page a title such as "Blog".
To the right of the content area, find "Page Attributes".
From the drop-down, select the "Blog Template".
Once the blog template is selected, hit "Publish".

Now that's it. You've created a "Blog" page. This page template you've selected called "Blog" is designed to pull ALL 'posts' into the blog page. So when creating a new post, that will now automatically be published to that page you've just created. Now you want to add that new blog page you've created to your website navigation so head to "Appearance > Menu".

If you've already created your menu, then simply locate in the left column the "Pages" block / module.
By default it will display the most recently created pages. Locate "Blog" and click "Add to Menu".
Once it has been added to the menu, you can now drag and drop that menu item in the position of your choice.
Now you've located where you want the menu item positioned, click the "Save Menu" button and voila!

Head to the frontend of your website (whatever your website URL may be) and you should now see it in the menu. Let's now expand on this a little. Some people will want to create "blog specific categories", or in other words, multiple blogs and to do this we have to take a little different of an approach. The "Blog Template" is designed to pull all blog posts, so using this template you cannot create multiple blogs. However, you can create "Categories" inside your "Posts" post-type specific to the multiple blog pages you're wanting. So let's say I want to create a blog for "Tutorials" and another for "Travels" and another for "Photography in a Day" for example, I would first create these as "Post Categories". Next, you want to head to the "Appearance > Menus" like you've done before but this time instead of assigning to your menu a page, we'll be assigning a "Category". In most cases, this should by default appear beneath the "Pages" module - you should see a block / module titled "Categories". Inside here, will display all the Post Categories you've created. Now select the categories you're wanting as specific blogs and add them to your menu. That's it. Save the menu and repeat the steps above for positioning and it will now appear on the frontend of your website and you can click there to find those specific posts. When creating those posts, assign them to the specifically created categories so now they'll appear in the category you've selected. Keep in mind, if you did create a "Blog Page" using the blog template, these posts will still also appear within this page as it does pull all the posts you've created into this page.

How to create a Gallery

*Since the release of WordPress Version 3.5 the method of adding media files has changed a little. Mostly, the user-interface has been modified and causes some confusion. We have created some additional (updated) tutorials that will help. WordPress 3.5 - How to create Galleries with Shortcodes. WordPress 3.5 - How to create Galleries with Page Templates. In our original release of KingSize WordPress, galleries were restricted to pages only and this hampered some of our buyers flexibility - for that we apologize. In our latest release, version 4, we've created a new post type custom to the galleries usage called "Gallery". It's sole purpose is to house the galleries you wish to create and allows you to then use a "Shortcode" to call them into various areas of your website (ie., Posts, Pages, Portfolios, etc). Now if you're a buyer from the past, you likely will be thinking to yourself, "What will happen to my old galleries then?" and the answer is "Nothing!" - Absolutely nothing will happen. They will still remain just as they were, no changes at all. In KingSize WordPress, you have two methods of creating Galleries. One is to create it using the "Page Template" and the new and improved way is to create them using the post-type "Gallery".

Creating a Gallery with Page Templates

This method is restrictive to Pages only and it still remains so we do not disrupt the past-buyers usage of the page templates. However, some folks may still wish to use them and we'll go about explaining how they work and how you can create a Gallery using these page templates.

Log into your WordPress Dashboard.
Locate the "Pages" post-type and create a new page.
Title your page and add the text of your choice if desired.
To the right, you will see "Page Attributes".
Inside this area you will see a drop-down to select from pre-created page templates (there are 5 gallery choices).
Locate the "Gallery Template" of your choice (ie., PrettyPhoto, SlideViewer, Fancybox, Colorbox, Galleria) and make your selection (view our demonstration site to see the differences).
Now at the top of your content editor, locate and click "Upload / Insert" to attach / upload your desired images.
When the new window opens, you may now upload the desired photos of your choice from within your computer.
Once you've uploaded the photos, click "Save".
Now you can go to the "Gallery" tab and customize those image Titles/Descriptions and order to suit your preference.
To change the order they're displayed, just drag and drop.
Now that you've uploaded your photos and made your edits, click "Save Changes" prior to closing out the window.
To close out the window, click the "X" or click outside the box.
Now, look in the write-panel beneath the Content/Text editor and there is an area titled "KingSize Page Options".
Here you will find an option labeled "Gallery Page Layouts" (2 columns, 3 columns, 4 columns and grid layout) - just select a layout for your gallery to display on the site.
Additionally, you can add custom backgrounds and other options to this page being created.
Now "Publish" the newly created gallery page and those images will be displayed within the frontend of your website.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you're creating a "Page Gallery" using the "Page Template", DO NOT INSERT the photos you have uploaded into your page. This will cause your page to have a duplicate gallery. One will display the native WordPress Media Gallery, the other will display the custom Gallery you've selected from the page templates. Our galleries are designed to dynamically pull and generate those uploaded images into the page contents on the frontend of your website once published. So there is no need to "insert" the galleries into your pages.

Creating a Gallery using the Gallery Post-type

There are many advantages to using the "Gallery Posts" verses creating with Gallery Page Templates.

You can insert the Gallery into any page/post you desire.
You can re-use the gallery multiple times as desired.
You have a variety of options to customize that gallery.
They use shortcodes to be inserted into various areas.
Can create and manage galleries easily within one area.

These are only 5 of the benefits to using the Gallery Post-type verses the Gallery Page Templates. Oh, and it's of course easier to create as well! with more options!

Follow these steps to create a Gallery:

Locate within your dashboard sidebar, "Gallery".
Select the "Add New" option.
Give your gallery a unique name for organization.
Just above the title area, click "Upload/Insert".
Now just as you would uploading your images to the "Page Templates", you want to repeat those steps. So now that you've clicked the "Upload / Insert" link, a new window will open to display an "Upload" box. Here you can select from your desktop which photos you want to upload to this gallery.
Once those images have uploaded, you can click the "Gallery" tab in that window and edit the Titles / Description and/or organize their order displayed by dragging and dropping them.
That's it. You're done. Now save your changes and publish.

So now you've uploaded your images to the newly created post within your Gallery post-type, what next? How do we display those images? It's quite simple. This post you created will NOT display on the frontend of your website until you've called it by using a gallery shortcode and each gallery is assigned an ID when you've created it. To locate the Gallery ID, go to "Galleries" where you can view all the gallery posts. Inside this area you will see a column labeled ID. You will need this ID when creating your shortcode. Galleries vs. Portfolios

It's a commonly question we are asked: [blockquote]What's the difference between Galleries and Portfolios?[/blockquote]

Galleries

These are single page collections of images that when clicked will open in lightbox to display the images you've chosen to upload / attach to that Page/Post. There is no pagination and you cannot assign links to Gallery images so when clicked opens in a new page. At least not when using one of our 5 customized galleries in KingSize. Galleries, in short, are to provide you with the ability to share multiple photos within a single page/post that enable you to have a dynamic effect when clicked (ie., open in lightbox). You can assign various gallery types (ie., Colorbox, Fancybox, Galleria, PrettyPhoto and SlideViewer). You may choose to use various layouts (ie., 2 columns, 3 columns, 4 columns and grid layouts). They're great for using inside Portfolio items to share additional images and for including inside your posts to share images and experiences.

Portfolios

Unlike the use of Galleries, Portfolios allow for the use of "Pagination" and will allow you to link to the "single portfolio item" you've created, or link to other pages and websites using the "Custom Link" options within the Portfolio write-panel. Similar to Galleries, you can assign a thumbnail that when clicked is opened in lightbox (although at this time in version 4 and lower, the only lightbox available for Portfolios is PrettyPhoto although in a later version we'll be including options so you can customize which lightbox effects are used for Portfolios). Portfolios allow you to expand on the single item - for example, if you're a web developer, or photographer, you can use a "Featured Image" as your main thumbnail and when clicked, the user / visitor is taken to single Portfolio item post where additional details are found that share a overview of the project / experience.

How to create Portfolios

The purpose behind Portfolios is to add multiple projects with the use of additional details and essentially to help showcase your work. Portfolios can serve many purposes, such as:

Showcase your past and current Projects.
Showcase your photography sessions.
Showcase your traveling / adventures.
Outside the box usage: Shopping Carts.
Outside the box usage: Product Display.

The possibilities are limited only to your imaginations. Often we're asked, "What is the difference between Galleries and Portfolios" and we've created a specific post that explains that in detail. Portfolios are quite simple to use and we'll explain how now.

Creating Portfolio Categories

The first thing you want to do when creating a Portfolio is to "Create Your Categories" for the use of the Portfolio Items you will publish. This Portfolio Categories will help in categorizing your items, but more importantly, they're used to create your Portfolio Pages specifically. In this tutorial, we'll create a "Photos" and "Videos" portfolio. So first, head to your WordPress Dashboard, locate the "Portfolio" sidebar item and when it expand to show more, click on "Categories". Create your desired Portfolio categories, ie., "Photos" and "Videos".

Creating the Portfolio Page

Next we want to create the "Page" that will house those two individual Portfolio categories. So find the "Pages" menu item, select "Add New". Inside this new page we're creating, we will give it a title, ours will be "Photos". Afterward, you will repeat the steps for the "Videos" page. Next, in the right side column, locate "Page Attributes" and here you will see a drop-down for Page Templates and select the "Portfolio Page". Now so far, we've given this page a "Title" and informed the page when published it is to be a "Portfolio Page" and will call the Portfolio items. Next we will go to the "Write-Panel" options, located just beneath the "Content / Text Editor" and you will see it says "KingSize Page Options". The first item you will see here is "Portfolio Categories". It is important you have created the Categories for your portfolios previously as explained, otherwise no categories will be displayed here. If you have completed the steps in order, you should already see listed "Photos" and "Videos". For this page, we'll be using the "Photos" Category.

Portfolio Page Options

Beneath this, you will see "Portfolio OrderBy" and this allows you to assign a specific order to your Portfolio items on this page. Your choices are: Default: DESC by Date* - this basically means they will show in order of the date posted from the most recent to the oldest portfolio item added. *If you do not select an order, this above will be default. Random Order: This will list the items at random each time the page is reloaded. Your portfolio items will always appear in a random order. Custom ID Order: This allows you to organize your portfolio items in order of preference. When creating a Portfolio item, you can assign it an "ID". For example, "1, 2, 3, 4..." and they will appear on the page created in that specified order you have assigned them to display as. ASC by Date: will display the posts in order of oldest to most recent. Additionally, you can define the "Page Background" custom to that page by uploading it within the write-panel options, either using a Video or Image background. Beneath these will follow options corresponding with your background selection to either "hide the navigation and body" to show the fullscreen video, or etc.

Creating your Portfolio Items

Now that we have created our Portfolio Page and Categories, we want to continue on by adding our newly created Portfolio Items / Posts. Inside your Dashboard, locate the "Portfolio" menu and select the "Add New" option when it expands out with the sublevel menu options. First we'll add our Portfolio Post Title. Next we'll select "Photos" as our category (this means it will now show up in that Photos Portfolio Page we've previously created above). Using the Content / Text Editor, you can add in your desired contents.

Portfolio Item Write-Panel Options

Beneath the Content / Text Editor, we again will find our "Write-Panel" with options pertaining specifically to this Portfolio Item we'll be creating. By default, none of these items are required to be used, but in order to use the Portfolios to serve their full purpose, a few of these options would likely be necessary for your usage. Background: If you want to use a custom background image, you would attach / insert the link to that image here. Custom Read More Text: This allows you to add in your own text to override the default for that specific portfolio item (ie., Read More). Custom Read More Link: Should you wish to link this to something else (ie., Clients Website, etc), then you would insert the link. By leaving this blank it will link directly to the Portfolio Item you have just created. Disable the Read More Button: If you don't want this button, disable it. Lightbox on Portfolio Item: By default, lightbox is enabled on the thumbnails in the Portfolio page. However should you wish to disable this you can by selecting disable here. Background Slider Category ID: This is used if you want a Background Slider on this specific page. This corresponds with the Slider post-type. Just insert the ID of the Slider Category you want to use and this post will then use that Slider you've specified for this post. Custom Portfolio Background Video: You can insert the URL of a video you may wish to use for the background of your Portfolio Item. Custom Video Background Options: Beneath the video URL option you will have corresponding options available.

Photo vs Video Portfolio Usage

When creating a Portfolio Item, you are either creating it for "Videos" or "Photos". You can select one or the other for each Portfolio Item.

Photo Portfolio Items

Continuing where we left off in the write-panel options, next you will see "Image/Photo Portfolio Thumbnail Settings". This area is specific to Images / Photos and is not to be used when creating Portfolio Items for the purpose of Videos. Here we will select the Photo or our choice for the use of the Portfolio Item we are creating. Select an image from your computer using the "Browse" button. This image will be used as the Portfolio Item thumbnail, but will also be appearing in the lightbox when that item is clicked (of course, that is if you've enabled lightbox).

Adding More Lightbox Images for Photo Portfolio Items

Wish to display more than just one image when lightbox is opened in the Portfolio Page? Have you multiple images you wish to showcase? To add more images, simply click the "Upload / Insert" button and attach more images to this post. Do not insert them into the post. Just attach them to it and they will display in the lightbox when clicked as it has been designed to pull attachments from this portfolio item.

Video Portfolio Items

Using the write-panel section labeled "Video Portfolio - Thumbnail & Video Settings" you can upload a thumbnail for your Portfolio Item and also insert the URL for the video you're wanting to use for this item. For the use of Vimeo and YouTube, simply copy and paste the URL into the appropriate field. For Flash, HTML5 and other formats, use the "Embed" box to insert your embed codes.

How do I Update? Important for Version 4!

Updates can be as easy or hard as you want to make it. We say that because there are a variety of ways a person can update the version of there template and if you follow these instructions, we'll try and make it as painless and as successful as possible.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

It is so important that you take this advice we're about to give you and BACKUP YOUR WEBSITE PRIOR TO UPDATING! This doesn't just apply to our template, but to any thing you do in general that is a major change or risk to your site. It's so simple to backup your website although depending on your hosting provider, the steps will vary. Generally speaking though, unless you've a website that is a couple gigs and more, it takes between 2 and 10 minutes to perform a backup. Worse case scenario, something goes wrong, you have a backup to restore! Who wants the headache of loosing their entire website over a missed step like performing a backup first? Let be honest, no one does. So take a few minutes prior to your updating and just do a quick backup. Also, please be reminded that we cannot be responsible for any lost or corrupted information and/or files. It is your own responsibly to perform a backup!

OK, WARNING READ - How do I update?!

First, head over to Theme Forest and log into the account you purchased your KingSize WordPress template with. Once logged in, locate the "Downloads" section of your membership and find the KingSize WordPress template in this list of items. You can "Filter" by Marketplace if you're a crazy Envato shopper like ourselves. Once you've downloaded the updated version of the template, you need to unpack the compressed folder you downloaded to your desktop (or location of your choice). Once uncompressed, open the folder and inside you will find all the necessary files for your template usage. Specifically though, you're looking for the "Template" folder and inside here you will find the most current and stable version of our template, zipped and ready to be uploaded. Now you'll need a program called "FTP" (or also known as File Transfer Protocol program). There are literally hundreds available, [tooltip_link title="Let Me Google for You 'Free FTP clients'." to="http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Free+FTP+clients"]some free[/tooltip_link], and of course some premium. We'd suggest to you either FileZilla or perhaps CuteFTP (our personal favorite).

Follow these steps for a successful upgrade:

Log into your server via FTP and locate the "themes" folder.
With the updated version of KingSize, upload it to this folder.
Unpack the zipped version of KingSize to overwrite the old.
Go to your WordPress Dashboard and log in.
IMPORTANT: DE-ACTIVATE THE TEMPLATE AND RE-ACTIVATE IT AGAIN. This is required for upgrades from Version 3.3 to Version 4.
Now go to "Appearance > KingSize Options" and "Save the Changes" for the new options to be applied.
IMPORTANT - In version 4+ we added a new option to the slider for "Slider Intervals" and "Slider Transitions". If you do not define these inside "Appearance > KingSize Options > Home Settings" your slider will not load.
Now reload your website and it should now reflect the updates and now enjoy the exploring of version 4!

IMPORTANT STEP DO NOT OVERLOOK

Buyers updating from version 3.3 to version 4 are REQUIRED TO DE-ACTIVATE and then RE-ACTIVATE the template! This is due to the new theme options framework. In order for things to be ported over correctly, this template needs to be deactivated and reactivated before saving your theme options. By not following this advice you risk not properly carrying over your old settings.

In the release of version 4, we have introduced not only the Video Background capabilities, but a new and improved Background Slider script using the ever popular Supersized. With previous versions of KingSize WordPress, we had a Theme Option where you would upload your Backgrounds and sort them there. In the release of version 4, we have created a new post-type that is specific to the Slider. It is here you will now create, manage and organize your slider images and jammed with a lot of new options and features for your usage. First and most importantly though, allow us to clarify a detail for those of you who are past buyers updating from previous versions to version 4. Fear not, your background images will not be lost from the previous versions. Once you have installed your updated version of KingSize WordPress v4, go to your "Theme Options" and "SAVE" the settings. by doing this, it will carry over your original settings defined, and import your slider items into the newly created Slider post-type automatically. Let's take a moment and explain a little about both types of Backgrounds, Slider vs. Videos and how you will be using them.

Slider / Background Theme Options

Inside your Dashboard, go to "Appearance > KingSize Options" and you will locate a tab titled "Home Settings". It is here you will define your homepage slider / video options used. Background Type for Homepage: Here you will define whether or not your homepage will use the "Image Slider" or "Video". If you select the "Video" option as your homepage, scroll down to the bottom of this page and you'll see the corresponding Video Options which we'll explain a little more about shortly. Assign Homepage Slider Category: With the release of version 4, we have included the ability to use Sliders on multiple pages. So to have a specific slider for your homepage, you will want to create a category for it (ie., Homepage). Beside each Category you create (inside the Slider post-type) you will see an ID number. This is what you'd place inside this area as well corresponding areas throughout the website when using the unique slider categories on pages and posts. Assign Number of Slider Items: By default if left empty it will display all slider items in the ID you have specified. However if you want to only display 5 of those slider images, then you would define that number here. Slider Intervals: Here you can define (in milliseconds) how fast the images change. Slider Transitions: Here you can define (in milliseconds) the effect time on changes. Slider Transition Types: As a default, the slider will use "Fade" but you have the option to choose from the others in this drop-down selection. Slider Order: Define the order in which the slider items are displayed. Slider Titles & Descriptions: Choose to enable or disable these from showing. Slide Controls: Choose to enable or disable these from showing. Slide Controls Positions: Here there are two options, either "Above" or "Below" the Title and Descriptions. When using longer descriptions / text on your slide items, you will want these controls to be displayed below. If you're using 1 to a maximum of 2 lines of text, then they will appear fine with being placed above. Otherwise, more than 2 lines we would recommend you use the "Below" placement for the best presentation on your website.

Homepage Video Options

In order for videos to work on your homepage, you need to use the option "Background Type for Homepage" and assign it the Video selection. Using either "YouTube, Vimeo or MP4" please insert your video URL. Next select whether or not you want it to "Automatically Play", "Repeat Video Continuously" and/or show the control bar (for Pause / Play, Next / Previous). Now make sure to "SAVE" your settings once you have completed the setup.

How to create Sliders

Using Sliders can now be used on all and any pages/posts. In previous versions of KingSize WordPress, this was restricted to only the homepage - hooray for updates! To learn more about Homepage Background usage, checkout our Tutorial on "Background Sliders and Background Videos" for the purpose of homepage usage. In this tutorial though, we will be specifically discussing how you create the Slider Items and how they can be used throughout the website. First, log into your Dashboard and in the menu locate "Slider". The first thing we want to do is create some Slider Categories, so mouse over the "Slider" menu item and you will see "Slider Categories". Let's create two Slider Categories: 1.) This first category will be "Homepage" and will be for the purpose of using the slider on the homepage of your website. 2.) The second category we will create is "Photos" and will be used for the purpose of the Photos portfolio (or anywhere else). Now again, mouse over the "Slider" item and this time we want to select the menu item "Add New" to create some new slider items for use. It's pretty straight-forward from here... First we will give our new slider item a Title (this is required but can be disabled from showing on the frontend of your site by going to your Theme Options > Home Settings and disabling the Title and Descriptions from showing on the slides). Then we will add some contents (this is optional and can be disable from within your Theme Options > Home Settings). Each Slider post you create is an individual slider item (ie., image). So here we will use the "Featured Image" option to assign our slider image. So locate the right-side column and you will see "Featured Image", click this and you can upload an image from your computer, or select one from the "Media Gallery" already uploaded and assign it as the featured image. You must select the "Show" link beside the image to see the option that allows you to assign it as your featured image. Those are the most important and required steps. Now select from the "Categories" box which category you want this assigned to or you can create a new one.

Slider Write Panel Options

Beneath the Content / Text area, you will see the "Slider Settings" area, it is here you can define a few extra options specific to this post / slide. Custom Learn More Link: If you do not insert a link, this option will not appear on the slider image. However, if you wish to link your slider item to another post, page, or offsite link, you simply need to insert the URL into this field. Custom Learn More Text: By default it shows "Learn More", you can change that by inserting your own text within this available field. Open in a New Window: By default it will open in the same tab / window. However if you're linking offsite, you want the link to likely open in a new window. Check this box.

In conclusion to your Slide Item being added

Now once you have finished customizing that slider item, you will "SAVE" / "PUBLISH" it to finalize the work. This item will only show when you've assigned it somewhere. So for example, should you have assigned it to the "Homepage" category and inside your "Theme Options > Home Settings" selected the "Homepage" (by using the Category ID from within "Slider > Slider Categories") as your main homepage category, then this image will appear on the Homepage slider. Otherwise, until you have assigned that to a page/post/homepage, then it will not be viewable by the visitors/guests of your website. If you have created a second Slider Category, such as "Photos" and would like for this to be displayed within a page/post of your choice, open that page/post to Edit it and inside the write-panel you will find an option to assign the Category ID for the Background Slider to be used.

How to use Shortcodes

There are quite a few shortcodes available in KingSize WordPress. Most of which can be seen on this demo "Shortcodes" page. Shortcodes are designed to make adding certain options and features a little less difficult and time consuming sifting through code. A great explanation of what a shortcode is: "WordPress shortcodes were introduced in version 2.5 and since then have proved to be one of the most useful features. The average user acting as editor has the ability to publish dynamic content using macros, without the need for programming skills. When a shortcode is inserted in a WordPress post or page, it is replaced with some other content. In other words, we instruct WordPress to find the macro that is in square brackets ([]) and replace it with the appropriate dynamic content, which is produced by a PHP function."

When using the shortcodes provided with the KingSize WordPress template, you locate the "Unicorn Icon" within your Rich Text Editor while creating/editing pages and posts. Just click the icon and this will open a new window/box that you can select from a drop down which of the shortcodes you're wanting to use. It's finally here! The very anticipated and overdue update! Version 4.0 is now available for Download on Theme Forest.

How to Download the Updates

If you're a past buyer, you can log into your Theme Forest account and head to the "Downloads" section and locate the "KingSize - Fullscreen Background WordPress Template" - there you will see a link stating "Download". Please re-download the template to your desktop. Once downloaded, extract the zipped folder to your desktop and you'll see "KingSize WordPress Version 4". Inside this folder, look for "Template Files", open this folder and inside you'll find "kingsize.zip" - this is the file you'll want to upload to your server via FTP. Once uploaded, head over to your Hosting Control Panel > File Manager and locate the WordPress Installation > wp-content > themes directory and decompress the zipped folder to overwrite the previous version 3.3.

It's important to Backup first!

It's always best to play it safe! Backup your website prior to updating!

Important Steps to Update to KingSize WP v4

As long as you follow these instructions, you should have no problems! Not following these instructions while updating your template may result in issues, as well lost settings from your previous theme options. So please be advised, perform the steps in this order, as we cannot be held responsible if you cause any problems. This is why we've created these instructions (steps) to updating: 1. After uploading the file to your server and extracting it to overwrite the previous version (3.3), head to your WordPress Dashboard. 2. Go to "Appearance > Themes" and you will want to DE-ACTIVATE the template KingSize by activating another template, any template, for example Twenty-Eleven. Once you have successfully de-activated the template, RE-ACTIVATE the KingSize template again. #2 IS AN IMPORTANT STEP let us explain why... In earlier version of KingSize WordPress, we were using a completely different framework for our Theme Options. To properly carry over these changes (ie., your Theme Settings / Options) you need to allow the database to update itself and when de-activating the template, this enables the hooks we've created to carry this information into the newer version. 3. Just as important as #2, you need to go to your Theme Options, which is now located inside "Appearance > KingSize Options" and SAVE ALL CHANGES. This will apply not only the old settings, but also the new settings and if completed in this order, no settings should be lost.

Change Log overview for Version 4

Theme Options - One of our biggest changes in this update is the framework in which KingSize WordPress is based on. In previous versions we had a Theme Options that was very minimal. Everything within one page and at times could be a little overwhelming. We've tidied things up and make it a little easier and more organized. Background Videos - In version 4 you can now assign background videos to not only the homepage, but all pages/posts! The current version supports YouTube, Vimeo and MP4. Although in later versions we'll be improving this with more options and capabilities. Background Sliders - Previous versions only allowed the background slider to work on the homepage. Now you can also use the background slider on all pages. Not just that though, we introduced a new post-type called "Slider" and here is where you will be now managing your sliders (even the homepage slider). Create different categories for each of the Sliders and assign them as desired. Auto Hide Navigation - This has been an ever popular requested feature and now available in version 4. You can hide the navigation by default (on all pages/posts globally) or you can hide it on specific pages/posts (ie., if you want to display a background slider, or video elsewhere, you can hide both body contents and navigation via the write-panel options). Galleries - We've introduced a new "Galleries" post-type as well so no longer are your galleries restricted to just "page templates" but now you can use Galleries with the use of a Shortcode anywhere you want throughout your website and as many times as desired. If you want one specific gallery on a few different pages, just call that specific Gallery ID when inserting the shortcode. No worries though, we still offer the page template galleries so your old galleries will not be disrupted. Portfolios - Portfolios now support multiple images inside the lightbox when thumbnails are clicked. You can also link both thumbnails and the read-more buttons to custom links or disable them both entirely. Not to forget you can now include Galleries inside your Portfolios. Comments - The comments have been re-designed and re-coded to work better. In previous versions they were limited and unfortunately rich text formatting was not allowed. In this version, not only is Rich Text Formatting available, but they have a much cleaner and visual design. As well, in previous versions there was an issue with using comments "without avatars" and this issue has since been addressed and comments can now have avatars disabled if desired. Multilingual Support - We've introduced the use of Poedit where you can now use .PO and .MO files to translate your website into various languages as needed. So no longer will manual editing of the files be required to edit the languages. Blog Excerpts - As you can see in our demonstration, Rich Text Formatting has been improved for the Blog excerpts. In previous versions excerpts were automatic and unfortunately RTF was not supported in these excerpts. It's important to note though, for you that have larger sized Blogs that when enabling the RTF option (Appearance > KingSize Options > Post and Page) that you understand you will need to edit your posts to include the "more tag" as the excerpts will no longer automatically be applied. This option is disabled by default for past buyers, but can be enabled at anytime from within KingSize Options. Favicon - Now you can upload your custom favicons via Appearance > KingSize Options > General Settings. Express Install - For our new buyers, we've made the Express Install.xml process a bit easier. Still, if you're using the Express Install, there is requirement for you to assign your menu via "Appearance > Menus", but things should be a bit easier to follow now. There of course is a video tutorial that explains this in greater detail. Documentation - It's our hope that with the new documentation available people will find it easier to manage and find the information you're looking for. Bare with us though, this is a very elaborate documentation. It's bulky in size, but we have attempted to cover as much detail as possible for those with questions, as well those who are new to using WordPress. Along with this update new modified Video Tutorials have been included. KingSize WordPress Version 4.0.1

It is our hopes we’ve addressed all the known issues and added a few more options to the Theme Options to make management a little easier. Below I’ll include a list of the items we’ve changed.

Bugs / Issued Fixed:

Gallery Page Templates – All the "Page Templates" for "Galleries" unfortunately were calling the incorrect scripts and this was a huge mistake on our part. The issue however has been fixed.
Grid Overlay – This option did not seem to apply in version 4, we have since corrected this.
Gallery Widget – Was not correctly calling the images from the new Gallery post-type.
Styling Options – Various styling options within the Theme Options were not being applied. We have corrected the issues and now all the style options should correctly work. At the same time we’ve also included new options to further your styling preferences.
Slider Intervals – The setting was not being defined. This has been corrected.
Slider Transition (Seconds) – This setting was not being defined. This has been corrected.
Slider Descriptions / Titles & Controllers – If you disabled one or the other, it disabled both on the homepage slider. We have made this conditional now to disable one or the other, or both.
Vimeo Background Slider – This issue has been addressed and resolved. Works great now!

IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT UPDATES

When new features are added, it’s always best to DE-ACTIVATE and RE-ACTIVATE your template after updating. So once you’ve downloaded the template and uploaded to your server to overwrite the previous version, go to "Appearance > Themes" and DE-ACTIVATE and RE-ACTIVATE. Then go to your "Appearance > KingSize Options" and "SAVE ALL CHANGES" so things can be applied. For further information on updating, checkout: How Do I Update? Important for Version 4! In total, there were 45 files modified in the update for version 4.0.3 and 2 new files added (marked above). As you can see, this is a very large update that contains a lot of fixes, adjustments and a few new options to make various things a little easier and more convenient for buyers. As you can see a lot of new features have been added to accommodate buyers requests. The biggest feature being added is the ability to disable Timthumb and use WordPress’s native/default image resizing options. This is a new option added to “Appearance > Theme Options > General Settings”. A drop-down selection has been provided that you can simply select which option to use and that would immediately be applied. WordPress 3.5 - How it affects KingSize WP

On December 11th, 2012, WordPress released Version 3.5 named for the jazz drummer "Elvin Jones". With the release of this new version, there have been some changes to the "User Interface" which many of us were not overly thrilled about as we were accustomed to the old ways. Yet with improvements, always must come change. So there are some updates we'd like to take a few minutes of your time and explain a little about as they do affect our current version of KingSize WordPress v4+. First and foremost, our template is fully compatible with the latest version of WordPress and if you're interested in seeing what changes came out with the release of WordPress Version 3.5, we encourage you to checkout the "WordPress 3.5 Codex/Change Log". The biggest change that seems to be affecting our buyers is the change of the "Media Manager", as noted on WordPress:

Beautiful interface: A streamlined, all-new experience
Create galleries faster with drag-and-drop reordering, inline caption editing, and simplified controls
Insert multiple images at once with Shift/Ctrl+click
Add oEmbed suport for SoundCloud.com, SlideShare.net, and Instagram.com

It's definitely a new interface, but there's a lot of debate whether or not it's an improvement to WordPress. The Key Differences:

Changed the wording from "Upload / Insert" to "Add Media".
Introduced a new flow to how images are gathered and displayed.
Removed "Order By ID" fields but complimented with improved "drag and drop" ordering options.
Seems to handle media uploads a lot quicker and smoother than before.

Other than making a few things a little more complicated, the overall update has been a success in the eyes of WordPress. There are some bugs still present in version 3.5, a lot of users are reporting issues when using "Chrome", but for the most part, I personally feel as though the bulk of this update has been a huge leap forward. So in turn, there has been only one depreciated item as part of the WordPress 3.5 update and KingSize WordPress. No longer will the "Order By ID" option work when using the shortcodes for Galleries, but this will not hamper your ability to customize the ordering of your galleries. You can still "drag and drop" the order of images you want. In our honest opinion, this actually defeats the purpose of the Order By ID option anyway, making it more time consuming than anything, now being able to simply drag and drop them in the order you want is quite simple and suffice to your organizational needs. WordPress 3.5 - How to create Galleries with Shortcodes

Let's review how you'd create a gallery using the Gallery Shortcode. In earlier versions (and the current documentation for version 4.0.3) it's a little different than it is now for WordPress 3.5. The user-interface has changed a little as noted in our previous post, "WordPress 3.5 - How it affects KingSize WP". So let's get started. Step by Step Gallery Shortcode Tutorial: 1. Log into your WordPress Dashboard. 2. Locate the "Galleries" post type in the WP Dashboard sidebar. 3. Under "Galleries" select the option to "Add New". 4. First, let's add in a title for your new Gallery. The reason for the title is so you can organize your Galleries created. 5. You can add content into the Text Editor, but that content will not display on the frontend. When adding descriptions/content to your galleries, that is part of the shortcode that we'll expand on a little later. 6. Now we want to upload some images, click the "Add Media" button. 7. A new window will open in lightbox above the post being created. 8. By default, WordPress will load "Media Library", showing all uploaded images associated with your WordPress website. If you have not yet uploaded images, then WordPress will prompt you to upload new images by selecting new files. You can either drag and drop those images into the Upload box from your desktop/computer, or you can use the File Browser. If you've already images uploaded to your WordPress website, you will see the "Media Library" section selected/loaded by default. To answer the question you're likely already thinking, "Can I just select images from the currently uploaded images in Media Library?" and unfortunately the answer is no. The images need to be specifically attached to this Gallery post you're creating, otherwise they will not work. Learn more about WordPress' New Media Upload. 9. Once you've uploaded your images, or want to browse those images already uploaded, you would use the dropdown selection menu that may already display "All media items" and we want to change that to show "Uploaded to this post". If there are images already associated with this post, they will display here. If there are none, then you will be prompted to upload/select your files. Using the Gallery Shortcode: OK, so you now know how to upload those images, but how do you use the Gallery Shortcode? Allow us to explain... You've already created your Gallery post and have added your images as explained above. Now we want to make use of those images with the use of the Gallery Shortcode. It's pretty simple, we promise it won't get too confusing. 1. First, go to the "Galleries" sidebar item and click it. 2. Now you should see all the Galleries you've created. 3. To the far right, you'll see a column labeled as "ID". The ID is the number code associated with that specific gallery you've created. We'll be using this ID number to call that gallery into the Gallery Shortcode when using it throughout your website. So either write that number down, or copy it as we'll be using that shortly in the next steps. 4. Now you want to add that Gallery into either a Page, Portfolio Post or Blog Post. So we'll head over to that area now. In our description here we'll be using a "Page" and creating a Gallery within it using the Gallery Shortcode. 5. Once you've created your new page, in the TinyMCE editor (where you find the options for Rich Text Formatting in your Text Editor) you will see a small black icon that looks like a Unicorn (or horse). Click this and it will open in a new lightbox window a shortcode selector and drop-down selection menu. 6. In that list of items, locate "Image Gallery". 7. Click the "Image Gallery" and press "Insert". 8. In your text editor, automatically will appear this: [img_gallery id="" type="" layout="" orderby="" order="" description="" placement=""] The only required values to be used are: ID = This is the ID of the Gallery you're wanting to display. TYPE = This is the type of Gallery you're wanting to use. LAYOUT = This is the Gallery Layout (in Columns) you want There are additional values (optional) you may use: ORDERBY: Order by "Random" or "Ascending Order". ORDER: Order by Ascending or Descending. DESCRIPTION: Add a Description to your Galleries. PLACEMENT: Place the description "Above" or "Below" the gallery. In addition to these descriptions above, you can always head to any one of the Galleries within our demonstration website, http://www.kingsizetheme.com and you'll find there is a "Toggle" (Hide/Show) link labeled as "Show Shortcode Options / Explanations for Galleries" and this will break down the usage of the various gallery values and requirements. WordPress 3.5 - How to create Galleries with Page Templates

Creating a Gallery via "Page Templates" is how our template originally handled Galleries but later in the release of version 4.0+ we introduced the new post-type called "Galleries" where you can now create Galleries and use a shortcode to call them. The method of using a shortcode is a bit more versatile than using a page template, but both are available for your use. There are limitations: 1. You cannot re-use a Page Template Gallery as you can shortcodes. 2. You can only organize them via "Add Media" using Drag and Drop. 3. You cannot make use of the "Random" ordering. 4. Descriptions are available only "above" the gallery, not below them. Other than these minor differences, it works pretty much the same as you would when creating a Gallery via Shortcode (using the Galleries post-type). As mentioned above, a little more versatile as you can re-use the Shortcode Galleries throughout multiple pages/posts within your website, you cannot do this with the use of the Page Templates. Step by Step Tutorial using Page Templates for Galleries: 1. Log into your WordPress Dashboard. 2. Locate "Pages" and "Add New" from within this menu item. 3. Create a "Title" for your new page being created. 4. You can add content to the text editor, this will appear "above" the gallery. 5. At the top, locate the "Add Media" button and click it. 6. This will now open a new window that will manage your media upload/files. 7. By default, WordPress will load "Media Library", showing all uploaded images associated with your WordPress website. If you have not yet uploaded images, then WordPress will prompt you to upload new images by selecting new files. Under the "Page Attributes" you'll be able to use the drop-down selection menu to choose which of the available Gallery templates you're wanting to assign this page. In addition, if you want to modify the options to this page gallery, scroll down a little further and you'll locate what is called the "write-panel" and this will give you options such as the ability to define the custom background image, or how many columns to use (ie., Layouts) and etc. Once you're satisfied by your selections, "Publish/Update" that page and your gallery should appear on the frontend of your website using the page URL you've just created. What's the difference between the Galleries?

We're often asked, "What is the difference between a 'Page Template' and a 'Shortcode' Gallery?" and we'll explain. When we originally released KingSize WordPress back in 2011, the template only supported one method for creating the Galleries you see within our template today. That was through the use of a custom page template. Back then, custom post-types were slowly making their impact but we were already so close to releasing we kept with the page template method anyways. As time progressed, we realized the importance and the many benefits of using a custom post-type for creating your galleries. That namely being the ability to use those Galleries throughout the website in multiple instances. Let's compare the two so you can see: 1. Gallery Page Templates:

Can only be used on that specific page.
Currently only supports drag and drop ordering.
Our galleries were only unique to pages.
Couldn't include your galleries in blog posts.

2. Custom Gallery Post-Type:

A shortcode is used to call the gallery created.
A shortcode can be used multiple times.
More than one gallery can be on a single page/post.
You can insert galleries into Posts (Blog/Portfolio).
Shortcodes allowed you easy to use options/values.

While many of the features a shortcode contains can be achieved through the use of more write-panel options, the whole idea behind a shortcode is to "lighten the process", so things are in short, simple and precise. Change Log for KingSize WordPress Version 4.1

It's long overdue but it's now available! You can download version 4.1 from Theme Forest by logging into your purchasing account and clicking "Downloads". Find the "KingSize WordPress Theme" and click the "Download" button and download the "Main Files". If you have not already read "How to Update", it's strongly encouraged you do so first and as always, BACKUP your website prior to making any changes to your website. We cannot be held responsible for any issues that may be encountered with the updates. Best to play safe rather then sorry.

Important Note when updating to Version 4.1

If you've assigned any pages or posts to use the previous "Slider / Video Background" settings, you will need to re-apply the setting when updating to version 4.1. This simply means you have to go into your "Dashboard > Pages/Posts > Edit" that specific page / post and inside the write-panel options locate "KingSize Page/Post Background Settings" and inside this area you'll see "Slider / Video Background", it's a new option for controlling your page/post backgrounds. Assign what the page/post was using previously, whether "Slider or Video" and save the changes, it will allow your previous settings to work.

New Features and Options Added into Version 4.1

We've packed a lot of new features, fixes and options into this updated version. Aside from one thing we're aware everyone is patiently waiting for, that being the Responsive-design. We intend to release the responsive version in coming weeks but we knew this update has already been delayed long enough so we pushed it out as fast as we could. We can assure you though in our next update, we'll be including a few more new features along with the responsive design. In the meantime, here's what we've released in version 4.1: New Features:

Version 4.1 Change Log

When releasing such large updates, it's hard to really describe which files and lines were updated and in this case, version 4.1 practically includes updates and edits to all files used in the template. You can open the "kingsize" folder and view the "last modified" dates on all files. As you can see, practically all files have been updated. We do apologize for any inconveniences this may cause you but unfortunately it's difficult to list all the edits in such a large update. Thank you though for your understanding.

Support and Bug Reports

Before releasing any new versions (specifically, the responsive version), we will wait and see what bugs / issues may be reported and as necessary will release updates addressing those. We will not release a Theme Forest update with fixes until we've received all issues reported that we can track. Once we've been able to identify all issues (if any) we will release an updated version (likely version 4.1.1). Any patches to be released prior to Theme Forest updates will be announced and available on the Forums. To register with our support forums: You will require completing the following steps to register:

Log into your Theme Forest account that purchased the template.
Locate the "Downloads" area of your account.
Locate the "KingSize WordPress Theme" in your downloads.
Click the "Download" button beside it and you can download the "License File".
Once the file is downloaded and open, copy the "Purchase Key" from the file.
You will be required to use the same "Username" and "Email" as your Theme Forest account when registering. The password does not require being the same but the others do. Use the same email and username you've purchased the template with and the license key you're using to register.

An Apology to our Buyers

In recent weeks, I've [Bryce Wisekal] been battling health issues and unfortunately it has caused me to be unavailable and unable to access the Internet to help with buyer support. I am regrettably sorry for this and as our buyers in the past know, we've always taken a great pride in the support we offer our buyers. If there were any other options available, we would have done them to better assist but due to the unexpected position I was put in, it has been bad. I'm sorry. On behalf of O.W.M Consulting (Our Web Media), Kumar and I will be bringing on an additional Support guy to help with our buyer support. His name is Deepesh, a real good guy we've had the pleasure of having a part of our team. Change Log for KingSize WordPress Version 4.1.2

We are pleased again to announce the release of our latest version, 4.1.2. This version has addressed some issues discovered in the early version 4.1.1 and it is our hope that this will be the last partial update prior to releasing the next featured update to include our Responsive design. We hope the updated version 4.1.2 will come without issues and of course if there are any discovered we will immediately work towards resolving those. Please keep in mind we encourage the use of our Support Forums for buyer related questions and reports of issues and bugs discovered. Just like any update or modification, we strongly recommend you BACKUP YOUR WEBSITE FIRST. Updating your website is rather simple. Please read "How do I Update" for details. In this updated version, the following issues have been addressed:

Fixed the background resizer scripts as some environments this was not working.
Fixed the controls on video backgrounds as they were not able to be clicked when used.
Fixed the issue with other portfolio items showing in lightbox when clicked and opened.
Fixed the issue with ordering of the Gallery shortcodes. Default sorting is now drag and drop.
*New: If no orderby is selected, drag and drop order will be used as a default.
*Information: in past versions, we forgot to mention “menu_order” is an orderby option.
Fixed the issue with Portfolios not always displaying the drag and dropped order in lightbox.
Updated the version of "Fullwidth Audio Player" with the latest fixes and plugin release.

How to Change the Navigation and Body

On of our most asked about questions is: "How do I change the color of the navigation and content body?" and similar, "How do I change the shape and color of the menu and body?" We do cover this in our FAQs, but we're going to cover it here too. First, we need to ask ourselves a question:

Have I changed the theme opacity / transparency?

If you've changed this via "Theme Options > Styling Options" then you will need to edit files specific to that selection. So in this example, let's say we're using Opacity / Transparency setting "0.9". This means we're going to need to open "/images/opacity/09/" and it is those images inside there that we will be overwriting with our modified images after your done. If you have not defined the opacity setting and are using the default (no opacity/transparency) then the images you'd be looking to overwrite are inside the "/images/" folder. Alternatively, if you're using either "0.7" or "0.8" you would then find those corresponding folders inside the "/images/opacity/" folder and upload there your modified images. The navigation and content body you see as a default (black) are images. These images will require being modified to suit your specific needs. So if you're wanting to change the color of the navigation, you'd then want to open the "/PSD Files/" folder included in your download from Theme Forest and located inside it the "Sliced" folder. This folder will contain all the necessary images already sliced and ready for your use. At this point, you open the editor of your choice. We're using Photoshop. These are PSD files and are best suited for Photoshop editing. So now that you've opened your files, you can modify them as you'd like. You'll want to, after editing them, save* them to your desktop for upload. *Note: These need to be saved in .PNG format and nothing else. Based on your answer to the question above, you'll upload these images to the proper folders housing the images. This would either be "/images" for no opacity/transparency selection, or "/images/opacity/" and select the folder named for the opacity/transparency setting you've defined in your Theme Options. For your reference, a guide to the sliced images: The "Content Background" is the "content_back.psd" file. The "Menu Background" is the "menu_back.psd" file. The "Menu Bottom / Hide Area" is the "menu_hide_back.psd" file. The "Hover Arrow" is the "menu_hover_arrow.psd" file. The "Hide/Show Tooltip Background" is the "tooltip.psd" file. To change the shape of the body or navigation, you may find it more useful to use the unedited PSD that is available in the "/PSD Files" folder called "layout.psd". You will of course be required to re-slice your images accordingly and depending on your changes, may also be required to modify the CSS for these areas. Important Tip: Denoizzed has two templates named "KingSize". One is WordPress, the other is HTML. Request for Hands on Support

There will be times when hands-on support is required. This can only be achieved AFTER you've registered with our support forums and have been requested to contact us privately. When being asked to contact us privately, you will be asked to link to the thread you started on the support forums. Without this confirmation, we will not offer hands-on support. There are a few requirements we ask before hands-on support is given:

1. Confirmation of a Backup:

This is so you have the option to revert back. We cannot be held responsible if something goes wrong during the time we've been given login credentials. For your protection and safety, a backup confirmation is required. If you choose not to make a backup that is your choice, but we cannot be responsible for any loss.

2. FTP and WordPress Admin Login Credentials:

We require this so we can log into your website. We will NEVER share this information outside of the KingSize WordPress team. Your information shared should NOT be your full time password. We would advise you update these to use temporary passwords and not something so easy to guess. Use something that contains characters, numbers and letters, making it harder for anyone to access if not knowing your passwords already. Our sole purpose with this information is to quickly identify and resolve your issues when we've exhausted all other options via the Support Forums. If you're unwilling, or unable to provide us with full login credentials, we may then be limited on our ability to help you further.

3. Link to Support Thread / Topic:

BEFORE any private hands-on support can be requested, we REQUIRE you opening a thread on our support forums. This verifies your purchase, but also gives opportunity to help there rather than having to spend time doing hands-on support. This can be at times consuming of our availability. Hands on support is limited, as is any support in general. We cannot guarantee to fix server-related issues. We can see if there is a simple solution or an alternative, but if your server restricts certain features/options than we may be limited to their limitations. At that time, we would recommend you contact your hosting provide or suggest an alternative. Any hands-on support that exceeds 15-20 minutes effort, may include billable efforts. We will not customize your website or modify your website outside what is default, unless you've inquired about our development services. Please find below, an acceptable and unacceptable list of what we will offer free support for:

Acceptable:

Better understanding and use of the KingSize WordPress theme.
Within 10-15 minutes contributed support / effort.
Keeps within the original "as is" design and it's functionality.
Within 1-2 lines of coding and contributed effort being needed.
Directional use and guidance using the template.
To report bugs and seek out fixes for reported issues discovered.

Unacceptable:

Anything exceeding 10-15 minutes of contributed support.
Anything exceeding 1-2 lines of coding and contributed effort.
Modifications / Changes to existing "as is" design & functionality.
Developments in general that are not default / standard / as is.
Support for any third-party sources such as Plugins.
Support for resolving and/or debugging unrelated conflicts.

New Features / Suggestions

If you've a new feature or option to suggest / recommend, we welcome and encourage you to send us those. We have created a forum within our Support Forums called "Suggestion Box" that we'd like to ask you to use for any suggestions you may have. It will help us organize those suggestions made and keep track of the interests in it by other buyers. If there is a suggestion already made that you'd like to also suggest, leave a comment on the thread. The more interest we see from buyers will act in favor of it being introduced in future updates. Please note that we do not guarantee suggestions will make future updates, nor do we guarantee when they will be released. We do however encourage you to voice your suggestions and we'll do our absolute best to see they're added if possible.

We often get asked the same question and unfortunately it's extremely hard for us to answer this. Each hosting company has a different way you backup your websites. So we've put together a collection of common places we've seen buyers hosting at and have compiled a list of links that will take you to their FAQ and Knowledgebase pages that will further explain how to complete a full website backup. If you do not find your hosting company listed here, or still uncertain how to back your website up, we would encourage you to contact your hosting company for instructions on how to perform your own website backups, specific to the company you host with.
